If you follow Sergio Lopes in Facebook, you’re used to seeing a younger Sergio hobnobbing with a plethora of stars from every galaxy. That, by itself, would set Sergio apart from 99% of us.

However, for me, anyway, the two most incredible things about Sergio: He has an actual Gold Record as a producer AND he’s had not one, but two heart transplants.

The Decisive Moment of Sergio’s Professional Career – He blatantly disregarded his boss’ orders and created his agency’s most successful campaign ever for a children’s product called Turma do Balamagico. But you’ve got to listen to the podcast, because as a result of that campaign he wound up with a Playboy Centerfold Model in Tahiti for a month.

What changed in his industry that he could not have imagined it? – Too many things have changed in the entertainment and music world to really be able to say “this one” or “that one”.

To name one: Daniel Heck (Spotify), when he was only operating in Sweden and had only 60,000 subscribers asked me for help to enter Spotify in Latin America. This was 19 years ago. He offered me a $10,000 investment to help him expand. I passed. This $10,000 today would have been 25 million.

How did he cope? The way opportunities pass in front of you, you have to cope with the things that you don't do, and you shouldn't develop a sense of guilt. It is what it is. Sometimes you are lucky, sometimes you're not and keep going.

I like very much to walk. Inspirational and walking. You just walk without thinking. So you have the senses of smell, you listen to birds. But this is a real coping mechanism: the most skilled medical professionals at Cleveland Clinic, they say 50 % of your cure, your recovery, from a heart transplant or any other difficult procedure is your mind

What’s in store for 2025?  We have a very important partnership with the Nobel family.  So this is a big task. We are now saving the planet, which is a very good thing. My company has an agreement with the governors of Peru and Bolivia to save the Lake Titicaca.

What would you tell a CEO or CMO who is hiring about older people? Listen to the more mature professionals that you think are useless because they're old, but they have such an experience. And don't rely in only rejuvenating your DNA of your company hiring people that are too young because this is not enough.

Listen to the rest of the podcast to hear about Sergio’s two heart transplants.
