Older workers want to go back to work... companies are seeking experienced talent. Why it makes sense to hire older workers.

 

A recent article in the BBC News points out to many workers wanting to go back to work. Reasons go from the obvious (retirement funds not being enough) to the pedestrian (bored) to the altruistic (want to make a difference).

For companies it makes all of the sense in the world:

  • Working from home has made work more comfortable for those over 55. They can work, be with the family and achieve some work/life balance
  • Older workers from the same industry --and sometimes from the same company-- bring a wealth of experience, minimizing learning curves, diminishing errors, increasing effectiveness

For small companies, older workers who want to go back to work represent a unique and valuable opportunity to bring in extraordinary knowledge and expertise affordably, as many older workers are totally happy to work part time.
